Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from the Walkers!

2020 the year of vision and change

A year ago as we looked to 2020, many of us were talking about 2020 vision and looking toward a brighter future.  None of us could have envisioned the changes we would see in 2020.  Changed plans, changed lives, changed just about everything. Our vision for 2020 turned from looking to the future to looking at what is most important to us.  What is worth risking life to go get or to go and do? Our vision for 2021 is probably pretty foggy so to speak.  Life has changed.  But (yes, here it is) Jesus hasn't changed.  He is still love and truth and the plan of salvation.  As we pause to celebrate Christmas and the birth of Jesus, let us remember that.  As we look toward a New Year, let us also look back over the past year and see the good changes.  More family time, less hectic schedules...  What are the good changes that we have seen?
People are living in fear and when they do, they look for hope.  The Hope is Jesus.  The changes we have seen this year are lives surrendered to Jesus. More people in our community have come together for prayer. More people have accepted Jesus as the Lord of their lives.  This is because they have realized they can't put their hope in the world.  We can put our Hope in Jesus.

Weekly devotions at the Pop-In.  We have had many come in asking about the hope that we have during this difficult year.   Many of them have come to Jesus for that Hope!
Thank you for your support for our ministry.  We could not have been a place for many in our neighborhood to come to Jesus without your help.

Please consider an end of year gift or monthly support next year.

Serving our Neighbors thru Normal Tasks

Mowing the yard is just a normal regular task, right?  But it is these "normal" tasks that can be used to share the love of Jesus.  We have developed friendships with our neighbors and know their names and a bit about them.  This past weekend as we finished up mowing and weed-eating our yard, we jumped in and helped our neighbors finish theirs. Why, you ask? Just to serve them.  Just to show the love of Jesus to them.
Let's do "normal" things to show the love of Christ.
Life Lessons Learned in the Normal Tasks
As I helped mow, the thought hit me that Roy didn't really deserve help.  It is not like he couldn't do it. He is probably stronger than I am and its not like he doesn't have days off from work. He just hadn't done it and the grass had gotten really high.  I think as Christians and missionaries, often times, we are looking for the less fortunate to bless.  We are looking for those who "need or deserve" help in order to help them.  The revelation also hit me that God doesn't give us what we deserve.  Romans 5:8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.  God didn't wait for us to deserve Christ.  No, we don't get what we deserve we get what God gives. God gives us a Savior and a choice to choose Christ.
It is my job to serve others for God. It is not my job to decide if they deserve it.
Use What You Have
So, we mowed our yard and helped two neighbors mow and weed eat their yards.  One neighbor, Ursel,  could not stop talking about the job Ned did.  He has never owned or used a weed eater so Ned impressed him with the detailed job that he did.  If you know Ned, you know that he is a bit of a perfectionist and is very detailed when he does things.  Ursel was incredibly blessed by the detailed job that Ned did with the weed eater.  Ned didn't do anything special for him. Ned just did what Ned does.  God used Ned and the detailed-ness that is Ned, to show care for Ursel and his yard.
What has God given you that you think is "just you"? Use it to show the love to Jesus to someone.

During this crazy time, we are continuing to share Jesus by intentionally doing normal tasks for others as we serve with YWAM here in Richmond, Virginia.  Along the way, God continually shows himself through and to us.

The letter reads, "No Cancer"

Last week, I received the "official" letter from one of my doctors and it read, "No Cancer" which is incredibly good news. Most of you didn't even realize that I would be looking for such a letter.  I am sorry that we have not been updating you regularly as we should.  It is totally my fault.  I don't physically feel well most of the time and have very little energy.  I have had numerous tests and surgery (hysterectomy to remove large growing fibroids) and my side pain is still here.  Sometimes worse, sometimes not as bad....but here.  The doctors now think it is nerve entrapment.  At some point, I most likely pulled an abdominal wall muscle while lifting or pulling something or just by twisting wrong. As I healed, a nerve has been pinched in my right side and it is not very happy at times. So in the midst of covid and the craziness of 2020, I haven't felt well.  I kept thinking that I would send out an update when I got a final answer and that hasn't really happened.  I hope to go in the next couple of weeks to the doctor who can take care of this issue.  Thanks for praying, Debbie

In the meantime, we serve. Ned continues to run the administration and accounting office.  Debbie serves in Personnel, Housing and Outreach Teams. Sorry for not keeping everyone updated more.  Please keep us in your prayers.

Weekly Devotions at Miss T's Pop-in has picked up since we have been allowed to re-open after total shutdown from covid.
This has been an extremely hard time as full time missionaries with YWAM VA in Richmond, Virginia.  We are in need of finances as we have lost some support due to others losing income due to covid.

What are the Walkers doing right now?

We are moving!!

The last week of August, our family will be moving long-term to Santiago, Dominican Republic. We will be working with YWAM Santiago and the Martin Family! We are super excited about this transition. But also praying for wisdom as we figure out visa's, residency, what to do with our things, etc...

As always, we are praying that the Lord will use us wherever we are!

Lord, help us not to miss the things you have prepared for us to do!
